Day 5 and Feelin' Like a Million Bucks!

Yesterday was a very bad day for me so imagine waking up and feelin' 90% as if nothing ever happened!  No gas pain at all and as far as being regular I am back to "normal".  I was able to eat more and enjoy myself.  I am very thankful that this day that everyone from ObesityHelp.com talked about has come.  Everyone has said that after 3 or 4 days of having the band surgery that everything will start to get better.  I am very grateful to reach this day and be able to smile.

What an eventful day..

O.K. I promised myself no matter how tired or bad I felt to try to Blog everyday so I can look back at what I went through during this journey. Here's a recap from today:

I woke up feeling like I was gonna puke and still hadn't had a BM since last Thursday. I got my son off to school with no issues but when I got home I felt as if I was gonna explode. I had a heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach and had an insane pain going up and down my back.  I curled up on the couch with my blanket and called the surgeon's office.  I insisted I come in that day.  My mom and sis came to pick me up and took me to the Dr.'s office.  I was feeling so stopped up that I refused to sit while Dr. White spoke to me. I told him about the heavy feeling in the pit of my gut and the insane back pain.  He informed me that prescription pain meds can cause constipation and that the back pain may be from the hernia repair.  He told me to use Tylenol liquid for pain and a suppository for the constipation.  The hospital had a Pharmacy downstairs so I got Mirilax and the suppositories.

I leave the Dr.'s office and my mom and sis insists on going to a nearby Gordmans store to look around. Imagine my shocked facial expression! Here I am feeling like I'm gonna explode and they want to shop?? Where is the love??  So my sister insists that the bathroom in Gordman's was nice, pretty and clean and to use the suppository there.  Ummm.....

She said the suppository works within minutes. Now, THAT got my attention. The thought of being relieved within minutes was the deal maker for me!  So....it turns out that it did work within minutes and I was feeling better, the pain in my belly anyway. The back pain was still horrendous!  I stopped by Walgreen's to get liquid Tylenol and I remembered wanting to cry and my eyes watering. I remembered feeling something must be wrong for me to feel this way! The back pain wouldn't stop! I bought the medicine took it and the back pain went away briefly.  I then posted  what I was going through and got amazing insight and support:
http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/4312258/O-M-Freakin-G-4-Days-Post-Op/#35534909

Turns out because of the hernia repair the back pain is common.  I got home and took a shower and felt a little better.

My stomach is literally growling as I type this blog. At least its not in crazy pain, though.  I managed to eat cream of celery soup thinned out and an Italian ice cup today. I know that is not much but too much was going on for me to try to eat. Tomorrow I will try to eat often.

That was a recap of today and I hope tomorrow is wayyyy better.

Gnight and SMOOCHES!

A light at the end of the tunnel

Good Morning fellow Losers,

I feel so much better this morning. I woke up, got my son off to school, took my meds and had some ISOpure and a calcium chew. My belly seems to have settled alot. The gas isn't insane right now. With the gas pain, the last 2 days seemed like eternity. I still feel general pain but that is because of the port area and the fact that I had a repaired hernia.

Today my hubby went back to work so I am enjoying the peace and quiet.  If the next few days goes as well as this, I will be ready to return to work next week.

I still haven't been able to .....Ummmm..well..  A stool softener is in order.

I have been able to pass gas, however.  I feel my belly gurglin and what not. The pain is still present in the left side of my belly where the port happens to be.  I forgot to mention something about my surgery...The Surgeon repaired my hiatyl hernia before placing the band.  He said if he didn't repair it, the band would probably slip. I didn't even know I had a hernia! Turns out its very common in obese folks.  Well I'm glad its repaired but maybe that's why I'm in so much pain.  I did have 2 surgeries at once.  I called my Employer and told them I will not be coming in until Monday. That gives me 1 full week to recover. I hope I am good by Monday but we'll see.

GAS-X To the rescue!!!!

Okay walking definitely helps.. I just want to make something clear. You know when you start to question if you made the right decision by having surgery?  The gas pain was it for me. I took two Gas-X tabs and started to walk around a bit. OMG, I am thankful that pain gas pain went away.  I really thought I was gonna explode!  I found that sitting in a chair is waaaaay better than laying down with the incision wounds n' all.

I am not looking forward to going to work Thursday but thank goodness its a phone job

PublishedI've got GAS!!!!  OH LORD HAVE MERCYYYY
My stomach is bloated and I literally feel the gas in my gut. It feels like little baby kicks when I was pregnant with my son, no lie. Misery!  You better believe I'm tryna pass this gas.  I wish I could take  Gas-X.  I am finding that time is geting away from me. It's actually hard getting in the 4 ounces of liquid every hour cuz I feel full.  I guess my stomach is still swollen from the band being placed.  I heard the gas pain will go away after a while and I pray the relief comes soon cuz its very uncomfortable.

I'll probably blog later tonight.

See ya later

After the surgery....

Okay...it feels good to be an official "LOSER!!"

So as I discussed earlier, my surgery started one hour late which was fine by me because that gave  my mom a chance to see me before surgery. That felt great to talk and joke with her before I went under.  Pre-op they gave me medicine to "take the edge off of my anxiety" and to make my mouth very dry so that I wasn't slobbering and drooling during the procedure. Now when I say my mouth was dry, I mean there was NO fluid in my mouth and every time I tried to speak, the inside of my lips stuck to my teeth..LOL! I never experienced such a thing. Okay here was my experience with surgery..

I went under in no time..LOL! It was just like I took a very brief nap.  When I woke up, I heard "Telisha, honey can you hear me? How do you feel?".   As I tried to answer I started coughing uncontrollably. Thank goodness I remembered to hold my belly as I coughed. My throat was RAW and mouth DRY.  They gave me a breathing treatment and said my oxygen was 100%.  I was still having trouble breathing without coughing though.  The nurse got eye level with me and said " Telisha, look at me, your oxygen level is at 100% so I'm just gonna walk you through breathing".  She started a breathing pattern of short shallow breathes in and out with me. OMG! That was awesome because she got me to breathe without coughing alot AND gave me a cup of water that had a straw type thingy with a tiny sponge at the end. She told me to wet my lips and my tongue but don't swallow.  That helped my cotton mouth.  I was given an once of water to make sure I could keep it down without it coming back up. I could. Later I was given an ounce of liquid medicine and 1 ounce of apple juice (watered down of course).   The only pain I felt was on the left side of my belly where the port was and I had sharp pains throughout my belly.  I was told it was air.  I drifted in and out throughout the day. Once my pain was under control I was able to walk and use the restroom. I had NO idea I was holding so much fluid! LOL!

I am now to take in 4 OZ of fluids every 1 HR which is going very well!  I keep an ice pack on the incision where the port is. Feels awesome.  I am definitely staying on top of my pain meds.  My tummy seemed to have gone down some thanks to unexpected burbs here and there..LOL!  Overall my experience went great...Way better than I thought it was gonna be!!!  I have a one week follow up scheduled and then in 4 weeks I'll have my first fill.

I am thrilled the surgery is finally done and I can move forward.  BTW, I thought I'd feel my band or port and I cannot feel either which is cool.

Thank you everyone for the messages and support. I really, really appreciate it.  Also I have a couple of pics posted from today.

See ya later,
Telisha

Tomorrow is THEEE DAY!!! This is freakin surreal!! Now, I'm kind of nervous because I have a confession to make...
Buuut.. I will bear that confession tomorrow, after the procedure... LMBO!!!!

I am pretty much stocked up on what I need for when I get back home from surgery. I found this protein powder at Walmart that is 26 grams of 100% Whey Protein per scoop.  It's called Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein and comes in a 2 LB. tub. The flavors includes Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate. Brace yourself for the price... $15.96 or sumthin.  I got Vanilla and it tastes is very good.  I used 1 scoop of the powder, skim milk, a lil smidget of KAVA instant coffee grounds, 2 ice cubes and ground them all up in my  knockoff Bullet Blender (by GE). Umm, can we say Iced Coffee? Yes, yes, we can!

Okay I gotta go cuz I got a lil' bit of cleanin to do before the day is OVAH!  EEEEEEEEE!

3 WORDS.....
FREAK OUT FEST...

I cannot believe this'll be my last weekend with an unbanded gut.

I's SCUUUUURED!   I have spent quite a bit of time online reading posts after posts and sum have made me more nervous ,ie, revision surgeries...failed bands..port site infections...but others were very encouraging and have calmed me down a tad bit. Another thing I need to consider is the fact that there are MANY people wishing they were in my shoes right now so I need to suck it up. This is going to be an interesting journey. Me and food will no longer be dirty lovers..

Hello, Hello!
Ok, so I had my pre-op meeting with the Surgical Group today and went over what to expect Monday after surgery.  I'm only anxious tho because my surgery is just around the corner...so naturally I'm a little nervous.  I just can't wait until the surgery is said and done. I think I'll be alot better mentally..LOL.  I was given samples of protein supplements that are great to use which was awesome because they were the same protein supps I researched and decided to use! WHEW! They happended to be Unjury..www.unjury.com and ISOpure which can be purchased almost anywhere.  I went to Walmart today and bought a 17 peice Blender by GE (Knock off version of the Bullet Blender) So I hope it works well because that will help me during this whole process for being able to eat other things after the surgery.

Alright, I am a lil sleepy so time for a nap.

I am actually doin good on day  3 of  the liquid diet. I have been reading posts where some doctors are allowing their band patients to do a 2 day clear liquid diet before their surgery.  What gives????  From what I understand, the reason for the liquid diet was so that the liver  wasn't fatty and all in the way when they are doin their thang during laproscopic surgery.  So the 2 day liquid only diet is a lil' puzzling to me.   Anywho, I am a lil' bummed tho that my hubby and son gets to eat pizza n' stuff. I kinda just wanna lick a peice but that would just be me teasin' myself.  Wooooo-SAHHHH!!

Well, time to head home and eat sum.....J..E...L...L...O....

Well I actually feel fine besides the occasional rumble-in-my-tum-mo.  I wonder how much weight I'll lose on the liquids.

Monday I have my full physical before the surgery and my pre-surgery meeting. One word : Excited

I have been in the mood for ZUMBA fitness. FUN FUN FUN!!!! My sister has the ZUMBA workout DVDs and is awaiting an approval for her surgery.  Why not shake our booty and get down with our bad selves? I need to stay busy so I won't focus on food.  Me and Food (Food and I..LOL) have a love hate relationship. Since I know this, I must always think about food before I actually eat it.  Am I really hungry? Am I bored? Am I upset?  I absolutely LOVE the support groups and they will be a HUGE tool for me to be a success. Good stuff, Good stuff.

OMG, OMG, OMG!

I have a surgery date. Thanks to a cancellation, I am in for 1/24/11.  It was by mere coincidence that I didn't eat anything at all today before my doctors appointment so I quickly went to the store and stocked up on soups and liquids.  This means there is no LAST SUPPER FOR ME!!!!    .  Sooooooooo, I have to go on straight liquids right away. OMG!!!

Honestly is for the best, though.

My poor hubby was bummed cuz he wanted to have sushi rolls with me tonight.  Sorry babe.

I'm taking this rare opportunity as a huge blessing.  I cannot believe I'm on the road to the NEW ME!!!

Oh Happy, Happy DAY!!!!!

Meeting with Doc tomorrow

I am excited about the visit with the Surgeon tomorrow to talk about my fears and expectations of surgery.  I decided to do the Lap-Band. Why? I'd like to have more children (I currently have 1 child), its reversable and way less invasive.  I'd love to have the RNY but something is telling me to not go that route; its just not for me. I do I pray, however,  that I'm not part of that small percentage of people who has issues with the band. That would suck incredibly.

Yeeeeeeah Boooooooi!!!!!

Sooooo first off I love that I found this site!!! What a great way to network and share experiences.

Anyhoo, I received a call yesterday on my home phone (the one I rarely use) from Dr. Whites office.   The voice on the other end of the phone said, "Tee, I was wondering if you got our message that your surgery was approved?" I shouted SOOO LOUD as I bended over in disbelief and said, "NOOOO I DIDN'T!!!"

                                              Heck YEAH!!

Note to self--- ALWAYS CHECK VOICE MAIL..Even on the phone line I rarely use.

I literally have tried every diet known to man and I just couldn't do it on my own! This was my 3rd  request and plea to the insurance company over a period of 5 years.  FINALLY APPROVED!!!

Lesson learned: Never give up when facing obstacles.  So this Friday I meet with the Surgeon to discuss the next steps leading to surgery.

I am....316 Pounds.  I'd love to lose 80-100 pounds.  I am so incredibly nervous yet extremely excited.
I am looking forward to meeting and talking with people through this site.

Smooches!
